Peter Barrett appointed Adjunct Professor of Barnett Institute

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Peter Barrett has accepted the appointment as Adjunct Professor of the Barnett Institute.  Peter, a graduate of the University of Lowell, received his Ph.D. in chemistry under Professor Tom Copeland.  After joining Perkin Elmer, he rose in the ranks of Applied Biosystems to Senior Vice President of Life Sciences. He subsequently was co-founder with Craig Venter of Celera, a highly successful company that sequenced the Human Genome. He then returned to Boston where he is now Senior Partner for Life Sciences at the venture capital firm, Atlas Ventures. His investments in the life sciences area have been among the most successful of the whole industry.

Peter has been a loyal friend of the Barnett Institute. He is currently Vice Chairman of the Advisory Board.  I personally have appreciated the advice he has provided on the strategic issues facing the Institute over the past few years.  It is a great pleasure to appoint Peter as Adjunct Professor. His background and experience will continue to play a significant role in the development of the Institute. He joins Dr. Rob Garnick from Genentech who was also recently appointed Adjunct Professor.
