Dan Levangie Joins Advisory Board
It is my pleasure to announce that Dan Levangie
has agreed to join the Advisory Board of the Barnett Institute.
Dan will be a wonderful addition to the Board, given his broad and
extensive experience in the health/diagnostic industry.
Dan
received his B.S. degree in Pharmacy from Northeastern University in
1973. He recalls being taught freshman chemistry by me in 1968.
From 1975-1992 he held various positions in sales and marketing with
Abbott Laboratories, ending as Regional Sales Manager of the
Pharmaceutical Products Division. In 1992 he joined Cytyc
Corporation, Boxborough, MA, the major company involved in the Pap
smear test for women. He rose in the ranks of Cytyc to become
President and Chief Operating Officer in 2001-2002. In the past
5 years, he has held major positions at Cytyc, most recently as
President, Cytyc Surgical Products, a division of Cytyc Corporation.
In November, 2007, Cytyc Corporation was sold to Hologic, Inc.,
Bedford, MA, a medical device/diagnostic company focusing on women's
health. He is now a Director of Hologic, as well as Ev3,
Minneapolis, MN, and Dune Medical, Ltd, Caesaria, IL.
The
Barnett Institute (Bill Hancock and myself) has had a very successful
collaboration with Cytyc Corporation over the past three years
discovering potential protein biomarkers for diagnostic purposes to
augment the cytological assay of the Pap smear. Dan was involved
in supporting this work and played a major role in the direction the
research has taken.
Dan's
broad background in diagnostics and his extensive knowledge of this
industry will be very valuable to the Barnett Institute as we continue
our development. Please join me in welcoming Dan to the Advisory
Board. We all look forward to his advice and insight as we move
forward.
