Professor Bill C. Giessen's Research Group

Professor Giessen continues his and his interdisciplinary group's research on Commodity Market Data Analysis (CMDA) by chemometric methods, done under corporate funding and in connection with Prof. K. Dadkhah of the N.U. Economics Department and collaborators outside the university. The program recently awarded its first Ph. D. to one of its graduates, Dr. Jun Chen who is employed by Bloomberg LLC in NYC, thus demonstrating that our graduating doctoral students are in demand by the financial services industry because of their broad education in computational methods, economics and business, in addition to their background in the natural sciences.

Pattern recognition by supervised learning is an especially promising method for estimating future price movements based on past market behavior analogies. Considerable progress has been made in setting up in designing an integrated, market-ready trading program as well as laying the foundations for further, more detailed studies.
