Education

1958 Sc.D., Metallurgy (Minors in Physical Chemistry and Physics), Goettingen, Germany

Honors and Awards

William Hume-Rothery Award, The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society, American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers, 1990;

Klein University Lecturer, Northeastern University, 1990.

Research

Following a previous focus on materials chemistry (research on alloy phases, metallic glasses, superconductors and surface alloying, resulting in 220 publications and 10 patents), current sponsored research of Prof. Giessen's group concentrates on economic/market analysis and forecasting, using chemometric statistical techniques including pattern recognition (by KNN and area discriminant analysis), correlation analysis, and decision theory.
